Reddit was founded on June 23rd, 2005 by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian in Medford, Massachusetts, United States and it is now owned by Condé Nast Publications.
Reddit is an American social app which consists of a collection of forums where the registered members can submit content like links, images and text posts which can be rated by other users. Reddit is also split into more than a million communities which are called subreddits and each of them covers a different topic. By now Reddit has become the 6th most popular site in the US and the 18th worldwide.
Some of the features that Reddit offers to its users are: they can comment on other user’s posts and continue the conversation; they can cast positive or negative casts for each post and comment on the site; it has a night mode; it is free and open; high quality entertainment; the ability to create their own subreddit on any topic they choose; Reddit premium which allows them to view the site ad-free; individual chat rooms.
In 2017, the site raised $200 million for a $1.8 billion valuation with Advance Publications being the majority stakeholder. And then in 2019, a $300 million funding round led by Tencent brought the company's valuation to $3 billion.
