The Apple Pay service was released in 2014 by Apple Inc.

Apple Pay is a mobile payment and digital wallet service designed to move consumers away from physical wallets into a world where the debit and credit cards are on their iPhone or Apple Watch.

The service supports most major credit and debit cards providers including Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Apple Pay offers its users the features: to store eight to twelve cards on their device; compatibility with iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Macs that feature Touch ID; the card numbers are tokenized with every purchase; a second-factor authentication which increases security and also making one-tap purchases within apps that have adopted the Apple Pay API.

In a 2018 publication released by Consumer Reports, Apple Pay was the leading payment service.
