Nike was founded on January 25, 1964, as Blue Ribbon Sports, by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, and officially became Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1971. It is headquartered near Beaverton, Oregon, in the Portland metropolitan area.

Where did the Nike logo come from?

The idea of the name Nike came to Jeff Johnson who saw in his dream a Greek goddess named Nike. Her image was one of the reference points for creating a logo. Knight met with the designer Carolyn Davidson when he studied at Portland University.
